As this weeks Art Haiku I have been looking at linking this site up to more sites, both pointing to the site and away. This is in an effort to get some more inspiration and a bit more work.
Here are a few of the things I have found which I think are worth linking to. Mostly foraged from www.ubu.com.
This film shows Tehching Hsieh during his work "One year Performance". During this he punched a time clock every hour for 24 hours for a year. I think its interesting because it throws up thoughts about artists commitment to their work. People say "it must have taken them ages to do that" and in this way qualify the work as good. Well this guy gave up a whole year, cause lets face it you can't do much in the hour in between the punchings, maybe nip to the shop for a pie or knit half a jumper sleeve. Plus if you want to see how long a person's hair grows in a year its worth a look. Don't worry he only took one frame per hour so the film is only going to take up 2 minutes of your life.
Or have a look here for a slightly more sensationalist version by a man called Noah.
A film by Yukio Mishima called "Rite of Love and Death"This one made me cry and say "That's enough now, you can stop that." See if you can see at which bits.
Gilbert and George documentary from the BBC. They are just such fantastic characters and although this one is long its well worth a watch for the view into their lives and an understanding of their work. Very entertaining.
Cindy Sherman, early on I guess. like the cronkiness of it. It looks like a student piece, a student with limited resources but endless imagination. I think that that may be a good place to be as it stretches your creativity. Easy options unavailable you have to work through a piece of art without being able to pay for somebody to do bits of it. And then you are engaged in all stages of the process not just the product.
William Burroughs "Shot Gun Paintings" because it just looks like fun and they shout things like "That's a Good one". Also the end with its bleached out footage is really Pruetty.
Wesley Methodist Church. This is a church in Chester where we hosted one of our Art Boot Camps and an event for Chester Performs. They have a great fair trade shop and a good place to escape the bustle of town for a coffee and a cake.
Wirral School of Samba. This is a group who came to our youth club to do some drumming sessions. Highly recommend them. They were great with the young people, really professional and I think that Samba Drumming is a great tool for getting a group working together and getting rid of any pent up tension.
